What Inspired Me to Write

Road to Authenticity

Many years ago, television and film producer Ernest Chambers encouraged me to write a screenplay about my life. I told him he was crazy! Why? Because while I was working as his executive assistant, I was also pursuing a career as a singer-songwriter — an ambitious endeavor in and of itself — but he persisted. He was my boss, after all. And so, I began my journey into screenwriting.

The screenplay Road to Authenticity is inspired by events in my life, one of the most significant being the passing of my eldest brother, Steve Croskey, from AIDS in 1994. Full of heart and humor, it is a touching story about our deep friendship, growing up in a Catholic, American-Italian family, and subsequently searching to find our way as adults — I found mine through writing music — so it was entirely natural that while writing the screenplay, eight original songs sprung to life that are central to the main character’s storyline. In turn, the recordings of the songs came out so rich and beautiful that I decided to release them on an album in honor of my brother. I’m hopeful that the album and screenplay will inspire whatever stars need to align in bringing to fruition, what I believe, is the makings of an inspiring and entertaining film.
